Showcasing uniqueness
In a crowded higher education market, the University of Huddersfield wanted to move beyond the usual claims and focus on what genuinely set it apart – its people and facilities. With teaching quality already recognised by the Global Teaching Excellence Award, there was a strong story to tell. The challenge was finding a way to make it feel distinctive.
A different format
The prospectus was reimagined as something closer to a magazine, with each spread given its own layout and treatment. This created more space to introduce the people behind the courses, showcase facilities and bring student life to the forefront.
Each department also had its own standalone brochure, with a one-page feature in the magazine acting as an introduction and CTA to find out more and download the full brochure.
A consistent thread
The magazine approach became a visual thread across the university’s communications over the following two years, from the Deferrers campaign and Freshers’ Week to the alumni magazine. This gave different audiences and departments a consistent but flexible way to communicate.
Recognised for excellence
Breaking away from the traditional prospectus took a strong degree of buy-in from the marketing team, but the result was something genuinely different from the competition. The prospectus went on to win a CASE Circle of Excellence award, recognising its impact in the higher education sector.
